Option 1. St. Anne’s Park and Rose Gardens
This International Rose Garden, founded in 1974, is set in the 266 acres of
landscaped grounds belonging to St. Anne’s Park in Clontarf, once the home of
the Guinness family.
The rose beds are set in lawns and linked by a network of pathways. Every type
of rose is represented and there are over 6000 flowers planted. The main park
has old oak and beech trees and a newly planted area of many different species,
dotted with ponds, walled gardens and strange structures.
The gardens are wheelchair accessible and free of charge.
Option 2: Shopping
Why not organise a shopping trip to one of the popular shopping centres.
Blanchardstown
180 Shops to choose from.
& also on site: UCI cinema, Leisureplex and the largest Public Library in
Ireland with over 100,000 books, computer rooms and exhibitions.
Dundrum
One of Dublin’s newest shopping centres, Dundrum has over 100 International
Brand Stores, 29 different food outlets, a 12 screen Cinema and a theatre.
Liffey Valley
This centre has over 90 tenants including a range of restaurants and coffee
shops. There is a 14 screen Cinema and also, every Friday an outdoor Farmer’s
Market.
All the above shopping centres are wheelchair accessible.
Option 3: Botanic Gardens
The Botanic Gardens were founded in 1795 to promote a scientific approach to
agriculture but they later developed into a huge collection of plants and
flowers, many from the tropical regions of the world. These had to be housed in
the glasshouses built by the famous ironmaster, Richard Turner, and which have
been restored to their former glory in 1995.
The wheelchair accessible Visitors Centre has a restaurant and coffee shop and
regularly holds exhibitions. The gardens are very accessible and admission is
free.
